"I was always interested in Art and started with Woodblock Printing. However, it is very hard to find a big studio space to work with in Tokyo, so I switched to photography, as I thought it would not require as big a space. My most memorable project was one which was sponsored by Polaroid. They provided me with amazing Polapan CT 35 mm film, which I used to create a series called "Z'akubaran" (Inner thoughts). My current project includes the "Kami" (Spirit) series. Spirit power is something you cannot see with your own eyes, but something I try to translate into my photography. I took this photograph using 4X5 format with a pinhole camera, which I made myself. I took this photograph at a deserted mine area in Hitachi. I was driving through the area and there was fog all over the mountain. It looked to me that there was a big centipede stuck on the mountain. I wanted to capture that mysterious energy that surrounded me." Shuden's works are part of a permanent collection of The Polaroid Collections, in The Smithonian's National Design Museum in New York, The Museum fur Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg and many other museums in Europe. He has had exhibitions at The Polaroid Gallery in Tokyo, American International Modern Arts Exhibition, Biennale International de la Gravure Cracovie in Poland, and The International Annual Exhibit of Poster Art in Switzerland, just to name a few.
